CONFERENCE VENUE

The Conference will be held on board of a comfortable 4-deck boat cruising from Nizhny Novgorod to Saratov and back along the Volga river, through ancient cities of Kazan, Samara, and Saratov. This route will give many participants a unique occasion to get familiar with both Russian history and nature.

Nizhny Novgorod is a wonderful ancient center of the Volga region. It was founded at the beginning of the XIII century at the confluence of two big rivers: the Volga and the Oka. A sign of an ancient city of Russia is the kremlin on the high bank of the Volga. There re many unique historical, architectural and cultural monuments preserved in Nizhny Novgorod and its
vicinities, for example, the famous Makariev Monastery. UNESCO included the city into the list of 100 cities of the world, which are of a historical and cultural value for the world culture.
Kazan was the seat of the Tatar Khanate in the middle ages. It is famous for the unique blend of Muslim and Christian influences, magnificent ancient cathedrals and mosques, its beautiful kremlin, and the Russia-largest Kul Sharyf mosque built in 2005 to commemorate the millenium of the city.
Samara was founded in 1586 as a defense outpost and grew into a major trading center of the Volga region. Now it's a major industrial, scientific, and university center of Russia, and one of the most beautiful places along the Volga, with its two magnificent embankments stretching for miles along the river. The old part of Samara has many charming wooden houses and large parks.
Saratov, another ancient Russian city, has a large number of historical buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, some of which were built by the Volga Germans who lived in the region. The city has one of the best art galleries in Russia.
Cheboksary, although first mentioned in written sources in 1469, is a modern and very comfortable city, famous for its breweries and the picturesque bay, around which it is situated. Sightseers should visit the Trinity Monastery, the Cathedral of the Presentation of the Virgin and residential houses of the 16th century, as well as the small but very pretty kremlin of the city.

The social program offered to the participants and accompanying persons will include sightseeing and tours of the cities and historical places along the cruise route, and a set of social events including music concerts aboard and conference parties.
